As our first chicks started growing up in 2017, we went to one of Chelan’s finest restaurants and asked if we could pick up food scraps. Ever since our chickens have been fine dining on Campbell’s leftovers – everything from romaine lettuce to bread rolls to leftover prime rib, salmon, and halibut.
As we add more chickens, we’re adding more food sources for our chickens.

THANK YOU TO THE FOLLOWING:
CAMPBELL’S RESTAURANT – CHELAN
All the fixin’s from the prep kitchen, and leftovers from buffets and group events.
IGA MARKET – CHELAN
The local market for Chelan residents and guests. A steady provider for the Happy Hens.
RIVERWALK INN – CHELAN
Food scraps from mouth-watering breakfasts, and a ton of eggshells that our chickens need for laying eggs with strong shells. Riverwalk fresh squeezes their orange juice and we get buckets of squeezed orange peels. Chickens don’t like citrus very much – until it starts to compost – we’re happy to wait.
RED APPLE – MANSON
Veggies, fruit, meat scraps, and dairy. Chickens don’t seem to like dairy too much when its fresh – once its started to culture in our compost, it adds to the goodness.. At Red Apple we also get scraps from the deli, lot of breads, joe joes, cheeses, egg shells – good stuff. We get donuts too – but our discerning chickens let them ripen awhile before they eat all that sugar.
ICICLE BREWING CO. – LEAVENWORTH
As our flock grew, we started looking for more food! Icicle makes a lot of beer. We currently fill our trailer there each week and we bring home about a ton of spent barley grain on each trip. With all the other food, its a feast, more than the chickens, turkeys, and geese can finish off. All the rest goes toward making great soil. Thanks Troy and Dean for making sure we get our grain, and to everyone who makes the wonderful beer!
KARMA VINEYARDS – CHELAN
With a motto of “Doing Good”, Karma makes the effort to get us food scraps from their Sunday brunches and special events.
